Problem 1 - First of all my horn went and wont wont work - thought it was a fuse problem - changed it - still not working

Problem 2 - My oil gauge always used to show full bars when I turned the ignition on, yesterday was half way, this morning on one - now it's flashing indicating an error. Checked the dip stick and oil indicator was ok. ( done a search on this and mostly from 2002 which indicated known problem )

Problem 3 - annoying rattle sound - seems to be coming from around the dashboard area ( drivers side ) EDIT - more of a vibration sound and seems to be the area near the airbag lock switch

Problem 4 - Trip Computer - the average MPG varies and moves about - sometimes goes up to over 200!!!!

Any idea's? Should I be worried? Worth taking a trip to the Pug dealer? Or are they just little niggles and I should live with them ( apart from the horn obviously )

Hi there

Wow your cc sounds like it is very niggleing. Personally I wouldn't take it to a Peugeot dealer as they are (i) Very over priced (ii) Very over-rated. I took my cc into them when my battery kept cutting out midst driving. I suspected it was the Alternator that either needed charging or replacing (bearing in mind that the car was 3 yrs old with 22000 miles). They told me that I would first need to pay a £50 diagnostic fee which I agreed to. Then later they called me to tell me I needed a brand new Alternator and that it would cost me £370. I could have avoided the diagnostic fee after all but Peugeot will not review a car without it.

I picked up the car and took it to an independant car repair garage and not only did they fit a brand new alternator for £150 but also gave me an explaination as to why my last one died; My power steering fluid unit had cracked and leaked all over the alternator. Do you think Peugeot were going to tell me this and repair the power steering unit? The independant garage ammended the crack for me at no extra cost.

So in answer to your dilemma, I would obviously replace the horn (not through peugeot if you can help it) and would go around to a couple of registered independant repair garages to get your 1st and 2nd opinions.

I hope that this has helped. Good luck and let us know how you got on.

Cheers for the reply - the vibration believe it or not seems to be the window wipers - only noticed it yesterday but it stops when I switch them on - so thats one thing out of the way

A lot of people seems to have problems with the oil gauge and I suppose if I check my dip stick I cant go wrong

The horn is more of a problem - I am under a 12mth warranty so thats ok - was wondering if anyone knows what it might be? Looked in the manual and changed the appropriate fuse and still nothing.

Could be the horn itself - you have a warranty - let them sort it.

Bought it into a local dealership as within my warranty

Anyway after an hour of waiting the girl receptionist said it was a wiring fault ( if I head correctly I'm sure she said in the ' boot ' of the car ) said as it was a wiring problem I would not be covered under the terms of the warranty and they would have to charge me!

I asked why didnt they tell me this before they did the repair - explained I wasnt happy and that I had no money or cash card on me anyway ( which was true ) she goes away - comes back after 10 mins and just hands me the car keys and says ' bye '

Customer service dont'cha just love it!

A result anyway. They don't try to generate any goodwill these days, do they.
