REMOVAL - REFITTING REAR BRAKE SHOES (LUCAS)

1 - RECOMMENDED TOOLS

[1] Wheel cylinder clamps .

[2] Pliers for removing and refitting brake spring .

[3] Tool for removing and refitting shoe retaining spring cups .

[4] Tool for locking the nuts (-).0526 J .

2 - REMOVAL

Deal with each side in turn .

REMOVE THE HUB AND DRUM ASSEMBLY .

IMPERATIVE : refer to the relevant procedure .

Remove :

Tilt forwards the assembly of brake shoe, adjustment mechanism and spring (6) .

Uncouple the handbrake cable .

Fit the tool [1] on the wheel cylinder .

WARNING : do not damage the wheel cylinder gaiters .

ANTI-LOCK BRAKES

Move aside the ABS sensor (7) .

ALL MODELS

Check :

Replace the wheel slave cylinder (if necessary) .

3 - REFITTING

Clean the backplate (HENKEL type product) .

Always renew : The seal (8) .

Grease :

Check that the automatic adjustment wheel rotates freely .

Return the clearance adjustment mechanism to its original position .

Correctly position the adjustment mechanism :

Continue the fitting operations in the reverse order to removal .

ANTI-LOCK BRAKES

Fit the sensor (7) .

Tightening conditions (Sensor (7)) :

ALL MODELS

Fit :

Tighten the nut (9) to 20 da.Nm .

Lock the nut (9) using the tool [4] .

BLEED THE HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT (if necessary) .

Apply full pressure to the brake pedal about thirty times (With the engine running, gently and progressively) .

3 - 1 - TIGHTENING TORQUES

Wheel slave cylinder brake pipe : 1,5 da.Nm .

Wheel bolts : 8.5 da.Nm .

Tightening conditions (Nut (9)) :
