REMOVAL - REFITTING FRONT SUSPENSION STRUT

1 - SPECIAL TOOLS

[1] Spring retaining rods (-).0918 Z .

[2] pivot spreading tool (-).0903 AE .

[3] Swivel ball joint uncoupling lever (-).0622 .

[4] Ball joint extractor (-).0903 AF .

2 - REMOVAL

POSITION THE SPRING RETAINING RODS .

Lift and support the vehicle with front wheels suspended .

Remove the wheels .

Remove :

Detach the steering ball joint using the extractor [4] .

Remove :

Extract the wishbone ball joint from the pivot using the tool [3], taking care not to damage the ball joint boot with the chain of the tool [3] .

Place a dowel pin at (A) between the wishbone and the sub-frame to lock the wishbone in the lower position .

Refit the strut to extract the pivot ball joint .

Move aside the pivot .

Position the tool [2] in the slot in the pivot .

Turn a quarter turn to open the pivot .

NOTE : the tool automatically locks in the open position .

Unseat the pivot from the shock absorber body .

Refit the pivot on the wishbone .

Tie the pivot to the sub-frame with iron wire to prevent the drive shaft disconnecting .

Remove the strut .

3 - REFITTING

Proceed in the reverse order to removal .

Fit new Nyloc nuts .

When refitting the pivot on the lower arm .

Ensure that the boot protecting the ball joint is in good condition (no cuts on the boot and securing clip present) .

Clean the ball joint taper, move the boot from the top to the bottom so that it regains its flexibility, position the boot in the fully extended position .

Engage the lower arm ball joint in the pivot, without forgetting the ball joint protector which must be positioned correctly (indexer .

Fit the ball joint bolt and a new nut ; Tightening torque 4 da.Nm .

IMPERATIVE : ensure the damper is located correctly in relation to the pivot .

The boss (3) enables correct angular positioning by engaging in the slot (4) .

The boss (5) serves as a stop .

Tighten :

Return the vehicle to its wheels .

Tighten the wheel bolts to 8,5 da.Nm .

Check that the ball joint boot is in contact with the protector and the pivot; if it is not, operate on the boot so that it provides the compression .

Remove the spring retaining pins .
