Am probably getting a new mobile phone for my birthday so have been doing a bit of research. It's sooooooo confusing - too much choice! Am on Pay As You Go so no great bargains/free upgrades to be had. Probably looking at about £100 to £150 tops.
Has anyone had any experience/got any comments on either the Samsung E700 or any of the following Motorola phones - the V220, V300 and V500. I went onto one mobile phone review website and the V300 seems to have a problem with it switching itself off.
Any comments gratefully received!
Cheers.

MOBILE PHONES
I've got a Moto V500 and I haven't had any probs with it. But then I tend to upgrade free every 12 months, as I'm on contract.
Used to have Nokias, then went to Samsung flip-phone (that was an e-something!) and now to Moto.
Nokias keys are a pain if you've got long finger-nails...the Moto's keys are bigger and need less pressure! Just another consideration for us ladies!

Not tried Motorola. I've always preferred Nokias. I've got a 6230 now which is really cool. It takes the same memory cards as my digital camera which means I can now store (and listen to) 256mb worth of mp3s - which is nice
Just check which make/model has the features you'd actually use.

I tend to think the features on a Samsung are limited and they make phones that look good but don't do much.
I have a sony ericsson myself but I think the motorola v500 is a good choice.
In the end it depends on what features you want on a phone.

I would prefer the Nokia 6230 over the SE K700i purely because the SE only has 40mb of memory and is not expandable unlike the Nokia with its MMC card.

A few things you may want to note -
Motorola - very strange to compose text messages on if you are used to using the T9 predictive text function on Nokia's etc. You adapt after a while but in hte interim you will be sending absolute garbage to your mates if you don't watch what you are typing.
Samsung - The antennas on the Samsung have never been fantastic in the past so if your signal strength is quite low on your current handset it may be even worse.
SE K700 - A few issues are still outstanding on this handset and SE are currently building a new version of software for it (to sort battery life issues and MP3 capability issues etc)
If you want any information about any handsets let me know, I am an engineer for a mobile operator so should be able to point you in the right direction. I also get a discount on some phones so drop me a line and I will see what I can do.

Dear DPH
Many thanks for the advice, that's excellent. Interesting what you say about the signal. My signal isn't that great (I'm with Orange and have a Sony Ericsson phone at the moment) and at home I can only get a signal in the garden!
Will probably have another little look at them this weekend and see what I think.

I have a Samsung E700 which has generally been good with lots of features. However the biggest niggle is the facility that allows you to see yourself in the front screen while taking a photo and pressing a side button. Because you don't have to open the phone up, the damn thing keeps clicking in my pocket and I end up with countless black photos, I can't seem to find any locking feature for this side button.
