Hi all.
Does anyone here know, or have an idea, if it would be possible to fit the new GTI 180 engine in the 206cc? If so, what work is involved and what else needs doing such as braking system upgrade etc?
Thanks.
GTI 180 Conversion
Why not just get the timing, cams and exhaust changed so your engine kicks out just over 170 BHP....its alot cheaper!!

For a start its a 1.6. I've had a new exhaust fitted and its superchipped so I don't think there is really much further to go.
Just spoke to my man at Peugeot. He reckons it would be pretty easy if it was a 2ltr but the ECU and wiring would need changing so would still be a big job.
For the 1.6, he says it would probably work but would need brakes and suspension upgraded plus a new engine bay harness or somethiing as well as the rewiring and ECU. Possibly about £3k-£4k in cost which I think is probably pretty reasonable considering it would be pug approved rather than some dodgy bloke in a back alley. Also it would leave room for further upgrading such as NOS I expect.

yer you do need the 2.0 engine to upgrade to 170 but that is very pricey for an engine install or is that inc the engine too?

I'm sure it would be a much better idea to buy a 2 litre CC in the first place.
Then if it's not enough then upgrade the engine.
Longmans will give you about 190bhp for about £3k.
That would sound rather nice with it's throttle bodies barking away on full throttle.
Apparently this 190bhp is without touching the head or cams as well!

I asked about this and was told the following.
The 180 lump will fit, but the exhaust will not. The 138 and 180 engine is the same base unit. The 180 has a different head, which has variable valve timing. The exhaust is a heavily modified system, which helps greatly to bump the bhp up to 180bhp. The ECU is obviously remapped. I also believe there was something else that was different, but cant think what it was.
I believe the 167bhp unit form the 306gti6 will fit, but the gearbox will not hence why the 206 180 is only a 5 gear car. You would be better off looking at an old Xsara VTS, which uses the same engine, but with a different gearbox, only 5 gears. When I asked about this to someone in the know I was told that the emissions would fail, although I don’t see how when the Xsara VTS is still in production. I can guarantee it’s a great engine even with 5 gears. This is the route I would investigate if I were you.
I also asked a monkey at my local garage about this and he advised me that it would be cheaper to get new enlarged throttle bodies and a modified ECU. This could give more that 180bhp. Not sure you would be able to do this on a 1.6. I also read in a recent addition of EVO that a company in Somerset will do this on the GTI 138 lump. I think it was about 2 or 3K to have this done though.
