ROOF NOT OPENING - NO BEEP

Post by Purrjoe »

Hello
I have had a problem with my beloved Cynthia for ages and I have tried my local Peugeot dealer who just don’t want to know. They claim they have tried to fix the problem but I don’t really think they have or care.
The problem is that when releasing the roof catches, there is no beep sound which means that the roof won’t operate so nothing happens. I have tried releasing the catches over and over but still no joy. I am not mechanically minded and need a mobile specialist who knows what to look for and fix it.
Can anyone recommend someone in the Harrogate area? Any help will be greatly appreciated as I am the end of my tether!
Thanks a lot

There are two possibilities I can think of. Either (1) the microswitch in one or both catches is not conducting because of dirt, or not opening because it is stuck, or (2) the voltage to detect what position the switches are in is not being provided because the Roof ECU is defective, or there is a wire break.

To address the first possibility, open the catches and move the roof away by hand enough to get access to the openings where the roof "plugs into" the catches - you will need to depressurise the pump (details in the Owners Manual). Spray some contact cleaner into the openings - that may be all it needs. It has worked for others.

Thanks very much for your help. I will try that and see if it cures the problem. I have a feeling that it may be a simple issue as it used to work fine until last summer when the problem started. It was taking a few releases of the catches before the beep sounded for the roof to operate but then it steadily got worse until eventually there was no beep at all and therefore the roof wouldn’t work.
Thanks again.

I have tried to fix the roof based on the suggestions of IanL but unfortunately without success. I have decided that it’s best to try and find someone who is prepared to take a look at it. Can anyone suggest someone who they have taken their pride and joy to who knew their stuff? Preferably Yorkshire but would consider other areas depending how far. Thanks for any help.

Thank you again IanL for your help. If they are the best and can fix it, I will look into the possibility of getting it there. Cynthia is SORNed at the moment.
Thanks again.

I have tried ringing http://frenchdiagnosticservices.com/peugeot-cabriolets about my poorly roof but the line is dead. So I have also filled in their contact form on their website and emailed them as well but have not received a reply. Does anyone know if they are still in business? Is there an alternative tel number anyone knows about? They are on Facebook but it has been inactive for ages. Thanks.
