Interior Light Surround Roof Console

Post by Spitfire6 »

Hi,
bought some high power LED's for the side lights and interior light. They look very white and bright. Around 300 mA consumption or 4 watts. About 2 quid each.

Anyhow, I managed to break and crack the subject part before removing the actual light unit and after throwing the metal heat shield, which is not needed now as the bulb is no longer incandescent, ordered the replacement surround. (I will "chrome" the metal shield before refitting)

What holds this part in? some hidden screws?

I can post a picture if you all want to laugh at kak-handed Iain? It's not pretty..

Cheers,
Iain.

PS. I have a shinny metal clip thing from up there too.

Hi,
As you can see the plastic is kak as I only touched it with a screw driver. Pliers, fingers. It fell apart!!

I can remove the rest of the substandard plastic I guess find out what really holds it in place.

Second hand one is due on Thursday. ( I hope it does not break when I touch it?)

Cheers,
Iain.

Hi,
New surround arrived and I see two small holes. I guess there is two screws holding the sub-standard & broken one in place. Crosshead or Torx(tm) I wonder?

Cheers,
Iain.

Hi,
New surround cleaned and Picture shows upside down light unit with the metal clip refitted!
No screw, just two clips needed pushing to remove the broken old one!

Might as well mod it while its out.

There must be a (Switched) battery feed available.
There must be a Door open signal available.

I will add a USB socket. Might have to be a hanging cable socket as no space after fitting a 12V to 5 VDC 3 Amp EBay module.

Iv'e got loads of LED's and sockets that I could lit to give extra light & maybe a couple to say the door is not shut?

Cheers,
Iain.
