Hello all,
I am looking to buy a 2006 low miles 206cc but it has an issue with the gearbox.
From what I have been told, the current owner was driving it and the gearbox just 'went'.
I had a look at the car, and when its in Park or Drive it makes a horrible noise. However, in Reverse or Neutral (not 100% sure if N is OK but R def is) its quiet.
What could it possibly be, and what am looking at to sort it, worse case?
Is there anyone here on the forum or any recommendations to have it sorted?
Thanks

Worst case, an exchange gearbox, or a rebuild by a specialist. Best case, change the fluid and it miraculously gets better - but I wouldn't hold out much hope. Noises suggest failed bearings or brake linings (the gears change by brakes clamping rotating components), or a valve problem (see this video.)
Best have it done by a specialist - e.g.here.
