Constant beeping while driving... Help!!

Post by Silvan86 »

Hi everyone

My mums 53 plate 206cc has an issue with the roof ( surprise surprise lol )..

The roof hadn't been opened since November, then a couple weeks ago my dad called me to tell me it wouldn't open. I went round and it was simply because the screen had not pulled across in the boot. The roof went down, albeit a bit slower than I remembered.

When he tried to close the roof that same day, the boot lid wouldn't click / catch fully into place, and now there is a constant beeping while driving, and naturally the roof doesn't work at all now. So, using this site and common sense, the beeping is obviously roof / boot related.

For the life of me, I cannot get the latches to clip into place and the boot lid to shut properly. When the boot lid is open ( having done so manually, Allen key, white clips etc ) the latches click into place perfectly. But when lowered, the latches pop open and won't seem to realign and interlock when the lid reaches the closed position.

Ive tried holding them in place ( with the hydraulic valve open ) and then tightening the valve again like I saw had worked on here for someone else, but the latches keep moving back out of place, I've tried pressing down on the lid in the hope they click into place but to no avail - it's like they aren't lined up properly when the lid is down. There is also sufficient fluid in the pump reservoir and there are no leaks.. The cables aren't snapped and hooks don't appear to have moved / come off, and the white clips have been in both the auto and manual positions and all the micro switches appear to be functional - although the constant beeping is because the car thinks that something is open ( which the lid obviously is ) so surely they ARENT all functional...??

Can anyone offer any advice as to what else to do / check?

Thank you

If you start the car and open the roof pillar latches inside, then press the button to CLOSE the roof, does that close the boot latches? Maybe you've tried that but it does work on most occasions!

Thank you for the reply.

I have indeed tried that - when pressed ( up or down ) the roof button only gives out 3 triple beeps, the same way it does if the shelf in the boot isn't pulled out.. I also don't get the 'bong' when the inside clips are opened, which is leading me to think a ( or some ) micro switch/es aren't working..

But a switch wouldn't stop the actual latches from interlocking, would it?

It could be that one of the roof catch switches is stuck in the closed position, so the roof ECU thinks it should not complete the closing process. Someone here had a problem with one of them recently, and a spray of WD40 solved it for him.

Worth a try?

If all else fails in the meantime, you can manually play with the relay in the boot. I had to do this recently as advised by another member. Bit of a nuisance as the relay is behind the pump, but defo does the trick. At least it would be properly closed for you and prevent the beeping!

If your roof has stopped before completing its open or close cycle and your left with the bootlid up or something similar and you have tried again and again to close it, then the chances are its ecu will have disabled the roof for yours and its own safety and you will need peugeot planet software and a diagnostic machine called lexia to re-enable it.

As mentioned above, if you can get to the pump and open the relay on the right hand side and operate it manually (take the cover off it and physically press it) this will close the roof properly and secure all latches.

Thank you all for the replies.

I will give each latch a spray of WD40 and see how that goes.. Would have done that already but haven't got any! So will get some and try that first.

If that doesn't do anything then will have a go at the relay and see what comes of that. Will let you know what happens. I just want my mum to be able to drive her car without the beeping, fixing the roof so that it works electronically with the switch can wait for now, just want to get her mobile again!

Failing that, I guess it's a Peugeot planet job.. This is presumably only at a Peugeot specialist?

Thanks again

You can get someone who already has Planet and is familiar with it - see http://www.peugeotforums.com/forums/mai ... -map-7734/,
or you can buy it on EBay - you will also need a laptop. It should ideally have a 32-bit operating system (XP is fine), or if yours has a 64-bit OS, you can install VMWare Player (free) and a copy of 32-bit XP to run as a virtual machine. That may sound very techy, but it's really easy.

You'll really need to get the boot closed to stop the beeping, and as you say the normal operation can wait.
Use the relay trick to close it :)

Thanks guys.

Due to work commitments I won't be able to try the relay until Sunday, but I will let you all know how I got on afterwards.

Going to attempt the relay trick today to finally ( and hopefully! ) close the lid.. Does anyone have any pics or anything or guides or links of exactly what it is I'm looking for and how to do it?

Thank you

I cant tell as you are zoomed in far too close to whatever it is. The relays are directly behind the pump inside the rubber housing it sits in with the straps round it
