Thats a great price. I had just timing belt and tensioners done last year and it cost me £240 with a Gates kit by using a local mechanic. The job took about 5 hours because there isn't any room in the engine bay and he had to tilt the engine just a tad to make live a little easier.

I have only done 35000 miles on my clock and when driving I am getting a noise not sure what type some people have said its just road noise but been told today that I need a new Cambelt do I need a water pump as well as have read that because the car is low mileage I don't need one what do you think

Belts should be replaced based on mileage OR age ... for example 80,000 miles or ten years.

However I'd never leave one that long ... having had on go on a different car after 4 years and costing me over £1800 to fix!! :censored: (£300 every three years is a cheaper option and pays for the piece of mind it brings)

You need to find out what the noise is though ... it could be a warning for something expensive!! :o

Get the belts and all the tensioners/idlers changed and the water pump. BUt make sure they know what they are doing and if the mention tippex ... walk away!

Why save £50 when by renewing the water pump and coolant at the same time as the belt, tensioner and pulleys you can have peace of mind for another 10 years?

I've changed mine in-situ ... that's the way it should be done.

That didn't stop me wishing that the person that designed the 206 was there to actually change the belts himself .. but then he would still be in the engine bay a couple of years on ...

I don't remember tilting mine just liftng it a tad to remove the mount. But if their mechanic had big hands he may have done a tad to give himself room. It's tight in there ... but the scars have almost gone :-)
