I have recently taken delivery of a 206cc in moonstone and have a few issues with the paint job. The story so far, the car had a tiny scratch on the drivers door on delivery and the dealer said not to worry they would put it right. First visit they used 'touch up' which looked as bad as the scratch. Second visit they attempted to 'blow it in ' over a small area and I ended up with a blue half moon - god knows how it got passed their QC. Third visit they attempted to 'blow it in' over a larger area (3/4 of the lower door section), this still looks darker than the rest of the door and in the meantime they also broke the clip on the plastic door trim. Having got fairly paranoid about the colour match I then looked at the rest of the car and it became obvious that the rear quarter panel on the drivers side had been sprayed after leaving the factory, the finish again was darker than on the passanger side of the car, which is uniform throughout, and also 'blotchy'. The Manager of the body shop of the Peugot dealership agrees with my observations and is having the car in next week to redo the door (for the 4th time) and also respray the rear quarter. I am dreading going to pick it up as they will have probably painted it black!!!! I was wondering if anyone else had issues with their moonstone cc's paintjob? The car is great otherwise but this messing about really takes the edge off !

Don't joke about your car coming back a different colour!

Ours IS black and came back from a visit to the local dealers with a white rash ..... on every inch of the body ........ plus added whiteness inside!

They had been attempting to remove white paint poured over a 106 and pressure washing was a method used. Unfortunately our car was in close proximity and the white mist landed all over and dried.

To add to this, they drove through the white residue on the floor! They got it on their hands and deposited it on the steering wheel and back of the seat, and left hand marks on the paintwork! They got it on their boots and transfered it to the pedals, carpet and mat!

And they didn't even tell me, I had to find out myself! I only noticed the paint on the steering wheel when I picked it up, the outside being covered in watermarks from their complimentary washing! Apologies from the dealer? None to date and to add to it they put a nice dent in the door which they have pulled out and the door appears to have had a paint job!

I know this doesn't help you Gaz, but I've got it off my chest and I am hoping for a favourable phone call from the finance company through whom we are trying to reject the car due to Peugeot/the dealers inability to rectify any faults and there treatment of the car.

Ta!

EyeSee,

You didn't come down to Canterbury to get it done did you!!! Having said that they are being very amenable at the moment. But my paranoia is growing - will let you know the outcome next week. Wonder if I should raise the issue of the 'box of nails' rattling around in the rear inner passanger side panel??

OMG these are the worst horror stories I have ever heard !!

Gaz, even if they re-paint the door I have doubts that they could get a perfect match with the rest of the panels given moonstone is such a light subtle colour.

3 years ago my girlfriend had the same problem with a new silver Astra company car she picked up, Vauxhall were told by her company to respray the whole car which they did twice before it was acceptable.

Had this been her own car she would have rejected it outright, cos no ones wants a brand new car being resprayed locally which is often less satisfcatory than the factory baked process.

If it were me, I'd do exactly what Eye See has done, tell them where to stick the car an reject it in writing, especially now after two bodged n failed attempts to fix the problem which seems to only be making the mess worse.

Eye-See....i would have gone absolutely MENTAL. And demanded a new car. I've never heard of such buffoonery (and even though its Peugeot even this has taken me by surprise)
If you need any tactics on revenge you're speaking to a military man!!!!

GregS,

I think I'm mental already, but I'm getting better. My last 2 convertibles were TR7's!!

Anyhow, the paint does come off ..... I am removing it myself bit by bit. I don't trust the dealer as they would probably use T-cut or even worse sand paper! White spirit is doing the trick, although I have to start at 5.30am and finish before the sun gets on the car, otherwise it might turn into a pumpkin!

I have a meeting with the dealer and their Peugeot rep next week and I will be intent on some recompense!

Car has gone in today. I took the opp to speak to the General Manager and explain that I was not happy (no machine-guns were produced!!). He asked that I give them a last opp to put things right and if I'm not 100% happy he will replace the car. Will keep you posted.

Update - In all honesty the dealer has been as good as gold. Paintwork was redone but the resprayed parts are still different from factory finish. Have today verbally rejected the car - they have said they will get a replacement asap to same spec and that I can continue to use the current car until then.

Dealer also gave me a free Windstop for inconvenience.

Better refit the original hoops! Will keep you updated on the replacement saga.

GregS

I am 'in negotiations' on our car, but relating to other problems with it.

The problem we have is that the dealer that has been attending unsuccessfully to it, (and covering it in a fine mist of white paint), is not the dealer that supplied it!

Unfortunately, we have been advised that rejection has to be to the supplying dealer and they want us to let them try fixing it first, (back to square one and they are over 50 miles away), and they are not interested in white paint supplied by another dealer!

Our argument is that as we have not paid for the 'services' (or white paint) supplied by the local dealer, then surely this has been provided FOC as a service forming part of the Contract of Sale for the car?

We are battling on and they have 12 days left to come to an agreement acceptable to us, then Black Horse who financed the purchase will take it up.

Are there any CC owning lawyers out there? If not I may have to borrow the guns!

Anyway, well done Gaz!

Keep y'all posted

I'm not a solicitor, but the rejection will have to be to the supplying dealer as it is them who will bear the cost of the replacement. I think you also have to let them attempt to fix faults. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Hope it all works out.

Eye See,

It appears to be the luck of the draw wrt dealers. As above, the General Manager was very obliging and offered both replacement or 'other' financial recompense. I chose the former.

As Rachel says, I think you have to give them a reasonable shot at fixing it - its just defining reasonable! Mine went in 4 X and was still not 'acceptable' - the dealer did not debate my citerion. Still I am sure the replacement will have its foibles.

What are your other probs? - good luck
