Hi,

Just new here and thinking of buying a 206cc. Can anyone tell me the truth about the back seat? Can you sit in it, or is it only a glorified parcel shelve? I have read both descriptions recently and would like to know your thoughts.

Thanks,
MG

Depends what you want to use the back seat for. If it is children then you can get away with it (I wouldn't even consider putting a baby seat in the back)

I have had two adults in the back, but it is not a position that can be sustained for long, as the front seats need to be pushed forward (lots! - problem if you have long legs) and it is very claustrophobic, as the back of the front seats are right in the face.

No seats at all if you put a wind stop up. But other than that it makes a great parcel shelf

MG,

The rear seats are only to be used for transporting people you don’t like (or kids assuming you like ‘em, or not!!). The seating position is bent forward in a classic torture position and sliding front see position give you ample opportunity to slice at their ankles as you lock them into place. No need for seatbelts, they’ll only keep them attached to their feet in an accident. However some passengers try to fit in side saddle. This is to be discouraged, especially if you have leather because they'll kick and squirm all over you nice upholstery as they try to lessen the cramp in their body.

Regards,

thebigkung

PS. Suggest you read Tim’s answer if you want sense!

the back seats aren't ideal for long journeys but four adults can easily fit in the car although with the front seats pulled forward a bit.

most other similar size convertibles on the market are only two seater anyway so at least with the CC the facility of back seats is there if required.

They are fantasic for two old english sheepdogs, but not much fun for people if the driver/passenger is tall and need's the front seatas back. We find that we cannot put the seat all the way back if we have have the windstop on.

As said above, it does depend a lot on the situation. My opinion is that you can certainly fit 3 adults in the car in reasonable comfort. The back seats are small and rather upright, but if the front passenger moves the seat forward there is enough room behind them. Whether a fourth adult will fit behind the driver depends on the position of their seat. I'm not that tall but like my seat back a bit, and it's pretty cramped behind it for an adult.

Don't let it put you off getting one. The reason they are small is to have such impressive boot space (with roof up), which is more than you'll get in an MX-5, Astra, Megane, SLK, and probably just about any other small convertible. And some of these have only 2 seats anyway. Although the roof uses a lot of the boot when down, the back seats certainly do give extra storage space.

So it really depends on whether you are more often carrying people or junk!

Only fine if your best mates are multiple amputee midgets.

I wouldn't get the car if you'll need to use the back seats for carrying people, get a Saab 93 convertible - they'd be comfy in that

Even though I am a bit small for my age, which is 9, the space in the back is OK at the moment but my knees are almost up to the front seat so it may be a problem when I am 10. I hope my dad gets a 307cc by then.

Hey William!
Shame you are too big for those little pedal 206 CC's! If you haven't seen them - pop to your local dealer. Both my local dealers have them!
Shame they aren't that much bigger!

Hi Julia
We saw one of the pedal 206 ccs yesterday when we collected the luggage rack. It makes the rear seats look positively spacious.
William has bigger ideas, he has seen the series on TV about restoring an E type in about 10 half hour episodes, now he wants to restore our MG Midget one weekend!.
I’ve had it since I was 17 and used it for sprints, hill climbs, autotests several seasons of racing and even a few stage rallies (try doing that in a cc) what other car can do that lot competitively. Obviously it’s now completely worn out (could put it stronger – but I wont) so that’s one project to keep us going until he is 17.

Blimey!
Well it is something to take his mind off your CC! Until he is 17 of course and then there is no stopping him! Just keep an eye on your car keys!!!!

William is also right - by the time he has outgrown the 206 CC back seats you will have a 307cc!!! wont you!!!!!

Thanks very much to everyone who took the time to reply to my question - especially William! Good luck with the restoration!

Despite the apparent cramped back seat I think I'll buy one anyway - you all sound so enthusiastic about the car!

If the car didn't have four seats I wouldn't have bought one.

It's very much a 2+2 when it comes to the rear seats. They're fine for doing the school run with the kids (which I do daily) but I wouldn't inflict the 200 mile journey to their grandparents on them. As it is, they're always fighting over whose turn it is to go in the front.
