FRONT LOWER SUSPENSION CONTROL ARMS.

Post by Spitfire6 »

Hi,
my control arm on the passenger side is shot. Again. Destroyed my tyre. Both- too much too out & pulls to left.

I can buy a set of GTi (180) control arms, drop-links & track rod ends from eBay.
Are GTi and 2L S16 suspend parts the same? the parts I see say not, only GTi?
Is it worth tripling the cost & fitting new "powerflex" bushes to new control arms and fitting? I don't want to ever buy new control arms again.
Cheers,
Iain.

I fitted GTi arms to our CC as the base ones gave out after just over a year. That big heavy 2.0 lump I guess. The GTi ones have better bushes.

Did wonder about poly but didn't to keep cost down.

Hi,
Off to get 2 x Avon ZV7 205/45 R16 W (83) tyres fitted in the morning (£136.2) Kaching.
IMG_2866.JPG
Otherside is nearly legal/illegal.
Looks like too much toe-out, caused by shot bush(es) on control arm(s) I suspect.

I have just ordered 2 pairs of poly bushes. (£115) Kaching.

I guess I can just order the normal control arms as the weak link is the bushes? Not purchased yet. (Kaching £60 - £100)?
What are the ball joints like? Replaceable? Same quality GTi or standard?

Cheers,
Iain.

Hi,
New wishbones AKA Control arms it is.
Saw these on eBay:

eBay item number:161504606196

Says they are not for 206cc 2l S16. I assume they will fit such a car and ignore the small print??
I have a track rod end assorted hi-spec rubber boots, so will change the ones on this control arms, drop-links & track rod ends.
Should last until the engine dies.
Cheers,
Iain.

Pretty sure they are the same .. possibly with the beefed up main bushes. The last set I fitted to our CC were sold as GTi arms .. but the 138bhp versions.
