It's for switching the ESP/ASR off if stuck in soft ground or snow, to help you get moving again.

http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/APddb/ for the online manual. Select language, then car, model and year.

Hi,
is ESP an HW update or available as SW only on ABS cars?
Cheers,
Iain.

According to the SEDRE, the ESP model additionally has an ESP accelerometer gyroscope as well as the ESP switch button, and the ESP ECU is different to the ABS ECU.

FYI- ESP stands for Electronic Stability Program, (Basically traction control)

Actually, these are two systems:
Stability control will try to correct understeer or oversteer by acting on the engine and breaks (by braking individual wheels as necessary)
Traction control will lower the engine output to prevent wheel slip, that's why it has to be disabled if you want to do a burnout (or lay some rubber).
So, two different systems working together.

Unfortunately, my CC does not have either of them, but on my other car (Opel Zafira), one press of the button disables traction control and holding the button for 3 sec disables ESP.
