Engine swap 2003 206cc

Post by DankDeathPunch »

Hello,

I am currently trying to figure out if a engine swap is possible.
I have the 1.6 engine att the moment and i am thinking
that the 2.0 or a GTI engine would be fun upgrades but
I have a few questions i hope someone can help me answer.

1. Is the engine mounts the same and would a direct swap
be possible? With transmission and all.

2. Is there any difference in size between the modell?

3. Is there any other changes that has to be done?

I am a swift learner and know allot of car people so getting
the job done should be a easy / cheap thing to do.

Also posted this in the 206 UK club site bit they seem inactive
there.

Thanks in advance!

(This is at the moment only a thought, if i can not sell my car for the right price in the future i'd rather build something crazy with it)

Can't answer all the questions, but you would need to swap the Engine ECU and therefore the BSI and the keyfobs from the donor car (you could keep the locks and key blades). Make sure you keep a record of the VIN of the donor car, which you would need if you have to program new keys, etc. I expect there would be some wiring differences, so probably also swap the engine bay and BSI harnesses and the underbonnet fusebox.

If you're serious, I suggest you use the Peugeot Service Box Parts listings to identify all the different parts.

I've never looked at a 1.6 so can't answer but gearbox is definitely different and so are drive shafts so you will need to use 2.0 versions. Peugeot would have tries to make chassis same for all models and made changes in the bolt-on components like mountings, etc.

Electrics especially under the bonnet but you would probably need a 2002-onwords donor car as prior to late 2001 the wiring is very different .. multiplex in later cars. CC wiring loom is different to hatchback too. I only know this as someone on 206info is trying to use a CC loom to convert a hatchback from 1.4 to 1.6 .. and is struggling!

Exhaust is completely different .. I know because some one sent me half a 1.6 and half a 2.0 exhaust system once .. :-)

2.0 engine might be heavier so you might need stiffer front springs. Brakes might be better on 2.0!

There may be lots of little changes (sensors, etc) .. you'll need the 2.0 versions.

It's never easy and certainly never cheap!

You mean 206info.co.uk? I think a lot are migrating to farcebook (wrongly in my eyes as fb "forgets" posts after a while so you lose all that wonderful historic stuff) .. but 1.6 to 2.0 has been done before so do a few searches on the forum and also google

Sounds like a hassle to be honest...

All i am looking for in the end is a decent performance boost...

Is chip tuning with a race exhaust / race induction kit a viable option to get more power out of it?

Thanks for all the helpfull info so far!

Not much, really. Substantial improvement is only obtainable with more capacity or boost.

1.6 16v .. 110bhp

2.0 16v .. 137/138 bhp

2.0 16v from GTi 180 ... you guessed, 180 bhp

Chipping the 1.6? Extra 10hp? .... many just fool the ECU into richening the mixture .. so fuel consumption goes up!

I have been looking at some tuning specialists regarding chip tuning and they promise up to a total of 130-140 horsepowers in the 1.6.
But that might just be bs...

You might get that with a reground camshaft, etc, but the car would be awful at lower rpm - only suitable for a race car.
