Wheel change from 16" to 15".

Post by Little Muffin »

Hi Everyone. Now, first things first. I don't know anything about cars. Shoes? Certainly. But not cars. I have bought a lovely little 206cc Quicksilver. It's a 2004 model and has 16" wheels on. I live in the North Yorkshire moors and when it snows around here it snows! I want to fit snow tyres to the front and the tyre place I use has said I would be much better off fitting 15" wheels. This gives a much better choice of tyres and gets rid of the "low profile" tyres that are on, giving a more comfortable ride. I trust this guy so what I want to know is, will the 15" wheels off any 206 fit straight on? Thank's, Little Muffin.

Yes, 15" steel wheels from a 206 will fit. Make sure the garage fits tyres with the same rolling radius, or your speedo will be affected.

Your tyre man is correct that the narrower tyres will be a great improvement in snow, but you should do the same to the rear, or the handling will be adversely affected.

Hi Muffin, I live in Poland so also know a bit about snowy roads! I popped a review on here of some winter tyres I used last year and was really impressed by. I had them on the standard 16's, but they do them in a 15" size as well.

Hello,

I'm looking at buying a spare wheel. I don't want a space saver. Just want to ask the infinite wisdom of this forum, will a 175/65/R14 wheel from a 206 hatch fit on my CC? Are all the hub sizes/offsets/stud patterns the same across all 206 models?

Thanks!
George

Remember it has to fit under the boot blind ...

Will a 14" wheel fit over the disc calipers?

Is that tyre size the same as the current tyre in diameter and circumference? If not it can screw up abs etc and may make car impossible to drive. Check it on a tyre site like carbibles

I have a 125/80 R15 spacesaver from a 207. (Actually, it's a weightsaver - you need the space to put the damaged full-size in after you do the change!). It fits the boot even with the JBL speaker box, and leaves about 2" under the blind. I chose it because it is a better match to the original's diameter - the 206 spacesaver (115/70 R15) is about 10% undersize.

I got a 175/65/R14 from a 206. It just about fits. There's about 3mm between it and the caliper.

The difference in diameter is 2.1% from my other wheels, 205/40/R17.

I have it secured in the boot, towards the back of the car. Still got an inch or two under the blind.
