Hi Sue,
Thanks for that info. I have now contacted CAB this morning and have been advised to write a letter to the garage where I bought the car from detailing all the faults which I have already paid for and all the oingoing faults. They also advised me on certain phrases to use within the letter under the Sale of Goods Act (1979) and to initially request a 'replacement or repairs (like for like basis) free of charge and compensation towards the cost of the repairs already paid for. I have asked for a reply from the garage within 7 days and have sent the letter recorded delivery.
The Sale of Goods Act states: 'the car should be of satisfactory quality, reasonable condition, fit for purpose and roadworthy. A car is not roadworthy if its brakes, tyres, steering or construction make it unfit for the road. Even if the car has an MOT certificate, this does not necessarily mean that it is roadworthy'.
CAB were so helpful, they now have all the details of the garage where I bought the car and I have a reference number so it's on the system as a complaint. Depending upon the garage's reply (or not) I have to ring CAB next week and let them know the outcome where they will then involve Trading Standards if the garage do not offer me a satisfactory outcome.
Will let you all know what happens with this one...tune in for more!

Latest Update...

The car has been checked by 2 independent garages (diagnostics checked again as well) and I'm being told that there are no problems with the gearbox nor the suspension. Garage has told me that I should expect some movement with the gearbox and through the gears and if the car had gone in today for an MOT it would pass. So, I think I shall still write a letter to the garage where I bought the car from asking for compensation for all the work I've previously had done and paid for.

Did they agree there was a noise / clunking or what was their explanation?

MollySue. That was good of you to post all that for her.
Hope it gets resolved.

Hi

Really glad to hear there may be a bit of light at the end of the tunnel for you. I know how it feels to have a problem with a new car...it's awful and can be quite upsetting when you're a girl

CAB are fabulous aren't they, I felt like a big weight had been lifted off my shoulders after I had spoken to them. If I remember rightly, I had to take my car to a trading standards garage for them to inspect the car. They clarified the faults, did a report then liased with the garage to rectify the issues

I had to have my car into the garage recently lately (local dealer) for a few repairs and they advised there was a potential problem with the gearbox and I must admit it is a bit clunky when changing gear, not smooth???, I just thought that it was supposed to be like that. I will find out the paperwork and post what they said the issue was. I know it was going to cost about £700 to put right but after spending £900 on the flippin thing, I need to save up!!

Please keep us up to date with any developements

Yes, the garages did say they could hear the noises (banging/clunking) but none of them could isolate what the problem may be. As I've said, they checked the suspension and gearbox and I'm being told it looks ok. I'm just not prepared to spend anymore money on this car now so at the moment I'm having to put up with the noises. My heart has gone out of driving and enjoying this car now because of the problems! I think, as soon as I can, I'll be dropping this car and changing to something else. This has really put me off ever having another 206 now
Thanks to everyone on here for all your help and suggestions :love-thx:

Hi

Sooo sorry to hear you are still having problems with your car. It's a shame your experience has put you off the 206cc as they really are a great car :(

LATEST UPDATE.....
I've contacted CAB and they advised me to write a letter detailing all the faults I've paid for and all the ongoing faults, which I've done. I sent the letter recorded delivery and guess what.....royal mail haven't delivered it! Since this the car has had to go back into the garage yet again for more work, this time when I started the car it shook really badly and sounded absolutely awful, really really chuggy. When I tried driving it, it felt as though the handbrake and brakes were locked on and the car wouldn't pull at all. After about 5 mins of driving like this the car then drove fine but I got the engine management warning light on and the cat convertor & anti pollution fault warnings on the display. This time it's had diagnostics again, 1 x injector, 2 x specialist injector cleaner plus labour charges. The garage have now said that they cannot guarantee how long this will last before anymore faults show up.
I've also contacted the last registered owner and they only kept the car for 1 month! They had nothing but problems with it, all the same problems that I've experienced. They were told that one of the problems with it was the valves and was quoted £860 - hence they never had the work done and p/ex the car to a garage in Nuneaton. I so wish I'd of known this before!
Anyway, I'm now paying the garage where I bought the car from a visit on Saturday and taking along copies of my original letter, the email letter I received from CAB and copies of the work I've already paid for. I have no idea what they will say about all of this or whether they wil even consider offering me anything, even though, according to CAB it seems as though I do have a good case for all these faults being there before I bought the car.
I will obviously let you all know what happens after Saturday.....keep your fingers crossed for me as I feel as though I just want rid of this car alltogether now.

You now have an independent witness in the previous owner.

Sounds as if its needed replacement hydraulic tappets all along. A fairly common problem, especially with the 2.0 engine.

Car taken back today to garage. Spoke to the manager, told him all the problems and handed him copies of my original letter, invoices for work already carried out and a copy of the email letter from CAB. Asked me why I didn't bring the car back to him earlier, told him he had originally told me to contact the warranty company with any problems but none of the work carried out was covered. He briefly read through the paperwork then said he would like to speak to CAB/Trading Standards himself on Monday and then he will contact me. He did say that if there was an amicable agreement we could reach he will do what he can but wouldn't say anything further until after he's made his phone calls. Is he contacting CAB/Trading Standards just to confirm what I've been told or would there be any other reasons?

Not sure which garage in Nuneaton as this is where the previous owner part exchanged it. It's been nothing but a nightmare on wheels!

LadyBrum. I'm glad you resolved this in the end, and I hope you didn't loose out (too much)
Would you mind just posting a new topic in this section with the colour and reg no in the desciption so that it will stick out to anyone looking in the rejection section. Thanks, and good luck with whatever replaces your 'cc
Cheers Col.

REJECTED........ FY52 TFK 2.0L SE - Blue (approx, 67400 mileage)

Do NOT buy this car..... It seems to have untold faults (banging gearbox, tappety valves, leaking roof on drivers side which soaks the seat, knocking/clunking on front drivers side, front electric windows sometimes lock and won't open and it goes on, and on, and on...

Hi

I've had a very similar problem. I bought a 206CC 1.6 Allure privately last August (2011) and the moment I drove it away I heard a grinding noise coming from the gearbox. The next day I took it to my local Peugeot dealer and they diagnosed a broken diff in the gearbox. I contacted the seller and he denied any knowledge of it. I wrote numerous letters to him and he again denied all knowledge. In around February this year the gearbox got worse so I had I take it to the garage and have it repaired, I bought a refurbed gearbox and he fitted it for me. After the repair there was still an unidentified knocking noise and then also the suspension started squeaking, I took it back and forth to the garage but he couldn't find the faults.
The roof has always leaked badly too and now its also developed another fault where the headlight stalk does weird things - when I indicate the headlights come on & the indicator turns off and now I keep getting a fault with the airbag (which after reading a few threads I think it's a fault with the comm2000). I wrote to the seller jut after I had the gearbox replaced but the letter was returned to me. I have a lot of other issues in my life (illness due to stress & debt issues) and didn't act straight away with my responses etc so I'm now worried I won't be able to get anywhere with it all, any suggestions?
