Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone knew if the manual gearbox in a 2.0L car is meant to be sealed for life.

Down here there's been a lot of discussion about failure in PSA sealed for life boxes - mostly automatics.

Basically, the general consensus is to change the oil regardless of what the manufacturer recommends.

With this in mind, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what oil to use and how much I might need?
Cheers,
Michael

Hi, According to my manual for my 2.0ltr 206cc the manual gearbox is not sealed for life. It is recommended that the oil level is checked and topped up at the regular service scheduled. It says that an oil change is not necessary. The recommended oils are Esso Gear oil BV 75W-80 PR 9736.41 or TOTAL Transmission BV 75W-80.
Hope this helps?

Thanks for that info.

That's a relief! I should probably go look for the manual. I never even thought to look for it. :sorry: I just went straight to my pc.

My gearbox has gotten quite notchy. I was hoping an oil change might sort this out, but maybe the dealers been doing it anyway.
Cheers,
Michael

Well I rang my dealer and discovered that an oil change for the gearbox is not something that is not part of any scheduled service.

I plan to get it done at the next service and recommend everyone should do the same on a regular basis.
Cheers,
Michael

Just re-found this thread and realised I forgot to report back!

According to my dealer, the oil is not scheduled to be changed anywhere in the manual and the boxes are sealed for life!

I had the oil changed anyway. The oil was pretty disgusting. I would recommend getting the oil changed to anybody who is hoping to get any longevity out of their car.

As for the notchiness, bloody monkeys at the dealership waited until the warranty ran out before suggesting the box needed to be overhauled. I ended up at a non dealer Pug specialist who traced the notchiness to gear linkages that desperately needed lubricating. Needless to say, this car won't be going back to the dealers for anything! Grrrr....!
Cheers,
Michael
