Separating bottom ball joints

Post by Capncol »

This comes up from time to time so I thought I would show you how I do it

Having already placed on axle stands and removed pinch bolt and road wheel, I open up the gap where the pinch bolt goes though with a blunt cold chisel (you can see it still wedged in place to hold gap open) I then place a big pry bar over the top of the wishbone and jam it in the rear wishbone bush aperture

You can then lever down on the bar to separate the ball joint. You can always tap the top of the bar with a heavy copper mallet to help it separate
