AirCon - Warm on the right, Icy on the left

Post by Karrot »

Hey Guys, Think I've narrowed this one down, but any input would be appreciated.

My AirCon is noticeably warmer on the drivers side vents (window and right vent in the centre, and the foot well). It blows cold on the passenger side vents so I'm assuming its a flap in the distributor box not closing properly. Both side blow hot when the temperature it turned up, and the drivers side may be a little hotter.

Its a DAC+CC module, so I'm thinking its just the servo that controls the flow over the heater / chiller for the drivers side.

Am I on the right tracks? and if so, how easy is it to adjust / reset? It must be working to some degree as I dont get heated air when I set the system to cold, just not very chilled air.

Cheers

I assume you've checked your pollen filter and renewed it if dirty.

When did you last have your air-con serviced. Could just need a freon top-up.

Yup, Filter is fine and it was re-gassed last year.

Compressor kicks in, Gas flows and the passenger side vents drop in temperature nicely, It's just the driver side vents are noticeably warmer. Im sure its down to a flap in the distributor box not closing properly and warmer air leaking in to the mix for the driver side dash vents.

Does anyone have a diagram or photos of the air distributor box??

Should probably post to close this one off.

I checked the mixer flap by removing the stepped motor on it. Manually moving the flap showed it moved freely and easily and the stepped motor operated smoothly too, no broken bits or poor attachments.

So, next step was to get the cooling loop checked by the local specialist.

They checked the system, drained it fully, and regassed it. Now it's working perfectly. The air from the drivers vents is cold enough to be uncomfortable if directed onto your hands for a long time.

Morale of this story. Take it to a specialist, not Kwik Fit.

I would say one nil to Ron on that one.

Ps. I wouldn't trust kwik fit with my mower!!!
