Hi all,
I've had my Peugeot 206 (03 plate) for just 3 weeks and two days ago the 'max oil' warning suddenly came on when I started it up to leave work.
I haven't touched the oil since I bought it so it seemed very strange - it was a very hot day though - could that effect it?
I checked the dipstick and the oil looks ok and when the engine is cold is just on the maximum line.. is that too high?
I've no idea if this is more than before as I can't remember what the oil levels were when I purchased it!
If anyone has any advice I would be really grateful - I'm not sure what to do but ideally dont want to spend a fortune on garage bills!

Hi Hewson and welcome to the forum.
Bit of detail on which engine please. At a guess (without knowing which engine) if oil level is correct on the dipstick, then you have a faulty sensor.

Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me - the car is a 1.6 engine size and was parked on flat land.
I'm thinking about draining it and then replacing the oil and seeing what happens - do you think it would be worth it?

1.6 what? Come on, gissa clue is it a 1.6 HDI, petrol 8V, 16V?? You've only said it's a 206 so presume it's not a CC
If your dipstick is correct, there is no point in draining

it is a 1.6 206 cc - petrol... not idea how many valves.... its an allure - does that help?? sorry I'm not really that good with cars!!

OK you have the TU5J4 (NFU) engine.
If the level is correct on the dipstick then change the oil level sensor. It's at the front of the engine, just to the left of the oil filter as viewed from the front of the car.
