Please help 206 mechanics as mine is breaking my lovely car

Post by Stugro123 »

Hi im a new member so please be genntle I've had my 04 chuffed as Larry as an owner..however my fuel pump went and the AA escorted me to my local garage saying it probably won't start again in the morning...so this is where my NIGHTMARE begins..they fitted a new fuel pump (£240) and upon test blew the fuel pump relay (aparently) and disembeled lots of things trying to find it.. so in ordering the part can't find it what's ever there now telling me it's built in the BSI unit given me various codes to try and get another..please please help as I'm disabled due for lots & lots of ops very soon and am not buying this idea so I'm asking for help...either way they've taken the BSI unit off so probably damaged it now!! I'm hearing night mare stories about people replacing BSI units and if the fuel pump relay is built in there am I best sending it to the professionals everyone uses for inspection £40 if they find nothing and repaired if they do...please please help as if I don't get any I can see this turning into a nightmare as I know the BSI unit is a computer holds the vm, engine ignition locking and hundred other things that are programed specifically to my veichle at manufacture..please help..kind regards..Stuart.

Hi, and welcome to the forum. I'm fairly new to ownership myself, however I will do my best to give you what advice I can. Hopefully CapnCol will be along in due course and will be able to give you a lot better advice than i could ever hope to.
Firstly, am I right in thinking that the car is currently undriveable?
Secondly, I would ask for the exact part number that the garage fitted, as it seems very strange to me that fitting the exact same fuel pump would cause a relay to fail. If the garage has fitted an incorrect pump running at a different ampage then I would think that they, rather than yourself would be liable for any damage resulting from fitment of an incorrect part.
Can you add your location to your profile as perhaps one of the local lads with PP2000 would be able to help you out by connecting to the car and seeing what they can see for a crate!

Firstly change your garage.
You can't change only the BSI without it being coded to everything else in the car It has to talk to engine ECU, Keys immobiliser etc: If your BSI has failed, it would be better to get it repaired by someone like BBA reman.

Assuming Fuse no: 25&26 in under bonnet fusebox is OK, get the double function relay checked as this is likely to have been the original fault. This also requires an engine speed signal to power it. Sounds very much like a miss-diagnosis to me

Thanks for the vote of confidence Rubyoptics
Cheers Col.

When requesting help of a technical nature, please give as much detail of the fault as possible along with details of exact model, engine size & type, gearbox, year, mileage, and any relevant work carried out to try to solve the problem to help us help you.
Better still, put the details in your signature.

Thanks so much I'm meeting with them later..where will I find the "DOUBLE FUNCTION RELAY" see the problem is they can't find the" fuel pump relay saying there isn't one" so it must be in the "bsi unit"..see the problem I'm facing is the aa diagnosed the fuel pump and I actually drove it (escorted) to the garage..so what ever they've done considering the fuel pump + labour is £245..+ £100 as I wasn't actually an aa member at time & if there going to try to tell me a new ecu bsi (which wasn't part of the original quote..the big Q? Is is it worth it..wouldn't it be easier to put the money towards another low millage 206???...anyway thanks for your I'm put. .anywaypreciated.

I actually no longer trust the AA diagnostics. My son's Renault Clio diesel broke down and the AA diagnosed .. you guessed it, the high pressure fuel pump. We got it towed home.

I checked it on my Sealey diagnostic and it was showing a few faults but nothing to do with the fuel pump. On our Clio it turned out to be two dead glow plugs and a faulty glow-plug relay unit.

You need to take the car to a Peugeot/Citroen specialist as if they use the wrong diagnostic system it will show up all manner of random faults and not the real one. It has to be Peugeot specific as regardless of what you read in the papers about standardised diagnostic systems in Europe, they aren't all as standard as each other!!

Two more forums, 206info.co.uk and peugeotforums.com, may also have a list of owners with PP2000 in that area that might be able to help
