HI all,
I am a GT6 convertible owner and as WE (the wife, mini-me and I) are a family of three and two seats do not allow travel and the car is a mans car as it has no powered (assisted) steering and brakes. It's mine!
I have just bought a 02 Peugeot CC SE that I will pick up on Monday with 12 months MOT. I will review the forum before asking any questions and helping anybody with answers that I might know.
Here's to a fruitful time on this forum.
Cheers,
Spitfire6.
Thanks for this forum.

Re: Hi From Burnley Lancs
Welcome to the forum. Hope the 206cc proves to be a good one. When you collect it I would check that it starts and runs perfectly from stone cold (ask them specifically not to warm it up before you arrive), and that the roof and windows all work perfectly. Check that the jack, wheel brace, emergency tyre inflation kit, allen key, locking wheel bolt key, key card, owners manual/handbook & maintenance record are all with it. You don't want to find out that something is missing when it is too late. Read the owners manual thoroughly to avoid any expensive self-inflicted mistakes - particularly with the roof.
I assume that you have already taken it for a long test-drive to check the car out thoroughly.
Good luck!

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
When I went to the garage the car was already running. So never heard/saw it start from cold. Assumed it was started to move it out away from the other cars. I had left a 100 pound deposit and pick it up on Monday with 12 months MOT. Do I need to request that I start the car from cold before paying the rest of the money? What could be a potential problem starting from cold?
I was shown the roof fully opening and closing. I was told not to remove my finger from actuation switch midway as this would result in a malfunction that only the manufactory could rectify. Is this pointing to an undelaying problem?
The car is an 02 CC SE. I couldn’t take it for a test drive as too many other cars in the way and it sounded OK.
I have just bought insurance for it and will pay the final 1400 on Monday before driving the car away with 12 months MOT.
Bit late in the day, but do I need to start the car from cold before paying the rest of the money? What could be amiss?
Cheers,
Iain.

Re: Hi From Burnley Lancs
You are buying the car so it is up to you. There is a potential hydraulic tappet issue with the 2.0 engine which shows up in autumn and winter and it would be apparent from a cold start. I'd want to check for it without parting with my money. Dodgy sellers will warm the engine up first before you get there to hide the problem. Purchasers only find out that there is a problem when they go to start the car next morning. Too late then.

As for no test drive, I would never buy a 12 year old car without at least a half hour test drive. It is only by doing so that any faults can be identified. The excuse that too many other cars were in the way just does not hold water. It would ring alarm bells with me and I'd suspect that the dealer is trying to hide something. Too late after you've already parted with your money.

The information about the roof actuation switch is correct. The roof operation is very pedantic - read the owners manual. I don't do anything else when operating the roof - not even undo a seatbelt. Certainly don't switch off the ignition mid-cycle!
Good luck Iain, I have a feeling that you're gonna need it. Fingers crossed.

Check Capncol buyers' guide. Use that and you won't go to far wrong.

Re: Hi From Burnley Lancs
Hi all,
Have had the car for over two months now and 2K miles. Used about 125mL of oil
New cambelt/water pump fitted cheap by garage. Old was not bad. All eclectics working. Mirrors do not fold in, but not sure they can. Front seat sometimes doesn’t lock. Front head light units are sh**e. Creaks a little like my Spitfire. 7” GPS everything DIN system fitted in place of original radio.
Off for a 0W40 Mob1 flush and change on Saturday, while they do a Terraclean.
Happy with my choice.
Cheers,
Iain.

Re: Hi From Burnley Lancs
Glad to hear the positive feedback Iain. If you do have folding mirrors there is a knack to folding them without breaking them. Lubricate around the pivot point first if they haven't been folded in for ages. Silicon grease spray will help longer term but some squirts of WD40 should free them off initially. When folding inand out I always apply firm upwards pressure at the same time. Once you've got them moving regular silicon greasing will keep them in good order.

Hi,
Just back from a TerraClean. Engine flush and oil change.
Took it for a drive after the teraClean to work the engine flush. Hammered it a wee bit and MPG was 35. Exhaust was louder and back at garage a wee bit of gum gum stopped the leak.
Normally weekly drives to work was about 29.7. So quite surprised.
50 mile trip to garage around 44 as mostly motorway at 60. 50 mile trip back home around 44.
Will update when I have driven it some more to see if the MPG increases.
If your car is coked up and running bad due to injectors or carbon build up; try it.
Me, at the moment cannot recommend it as it cost over 100 quid.
Sad, but at least it means my car has been serviced correctly during its 100K miles!
Cheers,
Iain.

Re: Hi From Burnley Lancs
Replacement mirrors are not that expensive. So if you dont successfully free the mirrors and end up breaking them you can always replace them. The only thing you need to note is the different electric connector blocks.
