Fuel leak

Post by rhume »

Had the car for a couple of months. My wife was planning on going for a long journey tomorrow so filled the car to the very top. Paid for fuel and when came back saw puddle of fuel on floor plus strong smell of petrol. :o

Looks like there is a leak at the top of the tank or the filler tube. Is this common on these.?

If you filled it to the brim, it may have vented some excess fuel

I hope that's all it is. It did vent a sizeable puddle :)

Is there some sort of vent system at the top of the filler pipe?

Although this is for a multiplex car the system should be similar on the CC.

It could be the vent pipe, no 4, which is leaking slightly.

Thank you very much that is really useful. The vent is there I presume to vent any gas build up in the head of the tank. It looks like it actually vents near the top of the filler pipe. A split in pipe 4 does seem like a good bet. Will get wheel and arch cover off and have a look. :)
