Not starting, just a single click

Post by magichands »

I did a search and this thread sounds similar but I want to check with you guys just in case as I suspect it's the starter motor.
http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk/viewtopic ... 3&start=15

I had a new battery installed last year so the battery should be ok.
Last week I started the car, went to the shops, 20 minutes later just a click, went back half-hour later and it started so got home and recharged the battery overnight, cars been fine until today, same thing, drove a couple of miles, went back to the car and just a click, came back an hour later and it started.

I can start it, let it run for 5 mins, turn off and it's a toss up if it will start again, it if does start it sounds healthy and starts straight away.

I have a fully charged emergency battery starter pack but that didn't work and it's been used and worked when I needed it in the past before the new battery.

I have power for radio and windows etc, just a loud click when I try to start the car.

Mine is a 206cc 2004

Thanks

Possibly a fault with the starter solenoid not making good contact. They are replaceable, but many people just fit a refurbished starter.

Could the heat be an issue?
Just been out and started 3 times in a row now it's cooled down outside.

This is quite typical of starter motor faults experienced on cars of this age. A new starter motor should cure it.

Looking at the condition of the label you do not have many wet roads. Jealous!
