I rececently bought the car. It has the Clarion stereo but the sound from all the speakers is very scratchy. Is there meant to be a sub in the boot or is there an amplifier somewhere?-

Some models have the JBL system, with a box in the boot. If you can't see a long black box just behind the bulkhead, you haven't got it.

Thank you for your post. No there is no black box. I’m not very tech savvy when it comes to car audio. I’m trying to troubleshoot why all the speakers are distorted/scratchy. Should there be an amplifier in the car somewhere?

If you don't have the JBL box and the car has not been modified with some aftermarket system, the amplifier is inside the Clarion unit. The good news is you can usually get a replacement on EBay for £20-30. The bad news is it has to be programmed into the car, using Peugeot Planet. It might be easier to replace the Clarion with an aftermarket unit - should cost much less than £500, even with fitting.

Ok thank you. Wanted to upgrade the Clarion anyway, hopefully that is the cause of the distorted/scratchy speakers.

Could also be the speakers themselves as some factory ones are never the best quality.

They all sound the same. Is it possible they all need replacing?

Could be possible, the front ones should be easy to inspect when the door panel is removed, the back ones are more tricky as I think from memory you have to remove the rear seat back and bench, see the repair guide in here or maybe YouTube for help :)
