Aircon freon pipe

Post by goltho »

I need a new freon pipe to replace one which is leaking. Part no. is 6460HG and it's £84 from the dealer :o. I can't source one anywhere else including fleaBay etc. and am now thinking about pulling one off a breaker. Anyone happen to have one or know where I can get one? Thanks.

If it helps, I visited Roger Windley breakers yard in Tattershall, Lincolnshire, about a month ago. They had at least half a dozen CCs in their yard being broken. They take telephone enquirers and trade over eBay etc, so should take telephone payment and they certainly ship stuff regularly.

Are you kidding me?? :o I'm literally on the way out the door to them right now!! I'm only about 10 miles from Tattershall and they do indeed have at least a couple of 2.0L 206s. :) Small world. Thanks.

Ah thats good then! You're closer than me, it takes me about an hour to get to but I do enjoy it as a morning out sometimes when I need some parts.

They certainly had several in stock in various states of being torn apart so hopefully you'll find the part you're looking for. They had a couple of decent looking motors just inside the yard too, so you shouldn't have to go far!

The office chair I'm currently sat on came out of a Fiat Coupe turbo they had sat back there that was right in the back corner of the yard; been there that long it had massive nettles growing through it.

Hope you removed the nettles then. Unfortunately, they had every permutation except the one I needed so I'm back to square one.

Is the leak in the metal part of the pipe or the rubber / fabric hose section?

I have before now repaired power steering pipes - which is make of a very similar (if not the same) metal as this stuff using chemical metal. The stuff is good for about 5,000psi so if you give the pipe a quick sand and clean around the affected area and then slap some of this stuff over it, it would seal.

It's a bit bodge, I know, but the power steering pipe I fixed with it continued for another two years at least before I sold the car without issue!

it's leaking at the top connection where the pipe pushes onto the 90º alloy condenser outlet. It's a possibility I'd not considered, so I'll look at that. Cheers.

Chemical metal will fix a small leak in the metal pipe I would have thought. The only thing I can't comment on is whether the cold will impact it or not. Just make sure the area you're repairing is good and clean before applying any of it otherwise it'll not stick.

Is it the joint itself that is leaking? If it's the actual connection is it something as simple as the o-ring on the connection needs replacing?

Don't waste your time trying to repair it, its a pressure joint, take it to any hydraulic specialist and they should be able to replace the crimp for you good as new.

Slo, when you say replace the crimp, do you mean whilst it's on the car and connected to the condenser spigot, or a repair on the pipe joint itself?
