this link will take you to a site i belong to when i had my smart car, the roadster model was the worst but the outcome is the same with the electrics, kane (mr evil ) myself and a few others helped build the site for others to use.

no problem, my other car is a 307 dturbo (well the wife uses it) so i might be able to help more,good luck don't give up hope even if you don't find the leak there is a way i know of protecting the electrics.

water test the car with a hose while someone is inside the car checking, a good tip and this is free use talc powder as a dusting then any water runs will be more visable which might lead you back to the actual ingress point.

£30 an hour is not to bad when you consider mr pug at £90+ i would go for it but you need to find where the ingress of water is coming from before the electrician fixes it which he might do.

i would change the immobiliser fuse regardless.
disconnect battery using the correct proceedure
change the fuse
re-connect battery using the correct proceedure
for the price of a fuse it's worth a try.

advice for the future when buying a car with a electronic immobiliser make sure it comes with 2 key fobs and they both work with the car.

use a see-saw movement in line with the pins don't do a side to side one as you will break the pins off.

i would get them to pay for it you need to haggle a bit you are the customer so you have the upperhand if not you could just walk away, if they do replace the belts etc make sure you get the receipts for the parts/bill of sale otherwise any warranty may be difficult to claim against
