Re: MOT Fail - Big Problem

Life can be very cruel, and all we can do is accept what we have as best we can. In a way we are lucky as we manage to survive quite well on the UK pension. At least i can still enjoy my car. I must also say i am very surprised at how good the 206cc 1.6 petrol is. It also has a nice turn of speed. ...

Re: Advice Please?

Diesel? Seen the price of a gallon recently? I'm also of the opinion that HM Government are going to target the oil burners for higher taxes after having been misled for years by the scientists and experts that say these are "cleaner" than petrol vehicles. Nope but know that the prices ar...

Re: MOT Fail - Big Problem

I bought my car during the winter to give me something to do. I have spent about £1000 on it and i payed £1000 for it so not a cheap car. However it was bought to renovate so i am happy. I am no longer young (78) so i will make the most of the car over the summer. I hope you find something nice to ...

Re: MOT Fail - Big Problem

I see my previous post still needs to be moderated, so no doubt it will be visible shortly. One thing i forgot about was the 2 reinforcing bars mentioned by gazza82. I can think of a more poetic word than pita. What i did was grind the heads off the bolts and then they came out quite easily with vi...

Advice Please?

I'm probably posting in the wrong place (again) so will understand if the Mods move this. Sadly, I am going to have to put my beloved 206cc to the Great Scrapyard in the Sky :( Sourcing parts (axle) plus the cost involved for maybe one more year's MOT isn't really viable. She is 20 years old so has ...

Re: MOT Fail - Big Problem

Thanks Gazza. I'll have a look at these. Something's bothering me though. I used to dabble with cars in my teenage years so did learn a bit about them. I don't go far in the car, usually as far as the local supermarket, about a 2 mile round trip and twice a month an 8 mile round trip to my music tea...

MOT Fail - Big Problem

My beloved 206cc failed her MOT yesterday in a big way. Needs new back silencer Needs headlight bulb (both easy fixes) but the big one... Needs a new back axle. Wheel on the offside is rubbing on the wheel arch and there is a LOT of play. She is a 52 plate, 2L engine. Garage is trying to source one ...

Re: Residue on Headlight

Hi Ian. Seemingly Halfords has got Autoglym Fast Glass which is for glass and perspex so might be worth a try. I did try a little nail polish remover a while ago but it didn't do anything - maybe too weak and I'm not sure if they still use acetone in nail polish remover these days. I'll give the WD4...

Re: Residue on Headlight

Hi Ian and thanks. Are the headlights actually made from glass or are they perspex? Reason I'm asking is my late hubby used to work for a double glazing company and decided to clean the headlights of my Daewoo Musso. Turned out the glass cleaner he used ate the surface of my headlights as they were ...

Residue on Headlight

It's coming up for the MOT time of year and one problem I have is whoever owned my 206cc before me had driven in France. There is a residue on the nearside headlight I can't get off. Any suggestions on how to get it off and with what please? The garage let her through the MOT with it last year but d...

Re: E10 Petrol

Thanks Luditus. That's good news at least. I'm rather fond of the old girl. We'll see if she runs OK on it. She won't run on any of the supermarket petrols and seems to have a preference for BP.

E10 Petrol

Noticed at the filling station this morning they have a sign up saying they are switching from E5 to E10 petrol and cars made pre-2011 won't run on it. My 206cc was registered in 2002 so really worried I'll be left without my car. I rely heavily on my car and can't afford to replace it. What's your ...

Re: Key Problem

Have you removed the screw? If yes, you can break the case open and get a replacement plastic case on EBay, eg link . Includes new battery and replacement switches if needed. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The transponder chip is secured separately inside the case lid. You MUST transfer it to the new case,...

Key Problem

My key fob won't open the doors. Looks like the battery's flat. Thought it might be on its way out the other night when I had to get really close to the car before the lock opened. Problem is, try as I might (and even son has tried and failed) we can't get into the key fob to change the battery. It'...

Roof Problem - Solved

Roof went down OK. Arrived at my destination. Roof up OK. On the way home, roof down (lovely day). Got home and the roof went up OK - or so I thought. Windows went up fine. Locked car...then noticed the boot flap was sticking up on one side. Now the windows wouldn't work. Got son to see if he could ...
