All I can suggest without the other information (GrandadMonkey asked for) is to check your battery and terminal tightness. One of the terminals has a quick release clip and if you've got the wrong sized battery or the clip is loose it could cause the situation you described.

Now at long last we have had some decent weather, had my roof down a few times, guaranteed to bring a big grin

The cc does make a lot more noise at speed due to the roof. I thought this was the reason why they fitted auto volume control to mask the noise.
