CHECKS AND ADJUSTMENTS VALVE CLEARANCES

Minimum time for engine cooling : 2 H .

DW8 ENGINE

Remove :

the style cover
the air distributor

Disconnect and move aside The hose (1) .

Remove :

the upper cylinder head cover (2)
the EGR valve hose (3)
the lower cylinder head cover (4)

1 - METHOD OF CHECKING

Operating clearance in mm :

inlet : clearance 0,15
exhaust : clearance 0,30

Tolerance : +/-0,07 .

	cylinder no. 4 on the rock	cylinder no. 1 on the rock
check inlet valves	1 - 2	4 - 3
check exhaust valves	1 - 3	4 - 2

Note the clearances .

2 - VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT

DW8 ENGINE

If the clearances (J) noted are incorrect, remove :

the camshaft
the tappets (5)
the adjustment shims (6)

Measure the thickness (E) of the adjustment shims (6) .

Determine the thickness of adjustment shims (6) to be fitted by referring to the example (column A or B) .

WARNING : after work on the cylinder head (replacement of camshaft, tappets or valves or valve grinding), fit adjustment shims (6), of thickness E = 2,425 mm .

To determine the thickness of shims (6) to be fitted finally, refer to the example (column C) .

DW8 ENGINE

Fit the adjustment shims (6) thus determined then the tappets (5) .

Fit :

the camshaft
the camshaft bearing caps

Tighten the camshaft bearing caps to 2 m.daN .

Fit :

the lower cylinder head cover (tightening torque : 0.43 da.Nm)
the upper cylinder head cover (tightening torque : 0.8 da.Nm)

Continue the fitting operations in the reverse order to removal .
